    • Explore Whitsundays  49464999  - overnight sailing, chefs
    • Oz Adventure Sailing  49402000   -   Overnight sailing.
      •  Bush Village Boutique Backpackers is constantly on the look out for WELL GROOMED MOTIVATED OUTGOING PEOPLE aged over 21 years, with a clean drivers licence, who are willing to work as a team member at Bush Village as Bus Driver/Sales Personnel. Fluent English is a basic requirement, preferred sales experience, happy disposition and able to perform unsupervised to achieve required outcomes.

      •  We  employ 2 people to be the face of the Resort to meet and greet our guests at the bus interchange, and assist with other duties necessary in the running of the hostel.
      • As we provide our guests with a shuttle bus service to and from town (1.4klm) from 6.30am to midnight daily, the Job is rotated between two drivers on a roster system where you drive the bus to a timetable in and out of town 14 times a day
        •  During this time the bus meets all incoming Greyhound McCafferty and Premier buses where you are required to talk to people getting off the bus who have not pre-booked their bed and convert travellers to stay at Bush Village.
        • Other duties are also allocated to the driver while on duty in order to keep the hostel running smoothly and sharing the workload with other staff on duty.
        • A salary is paid to each driver on a weekly basis.
        • Accommodation is also provided for the staff in "the staff cabin" where each driver has there own private bedroom, sharing lounge and bathroom with the other driver. Basically a self contained little house. It's not the Hilton but adequate to call your own while you are here. Cheap accommodation anywhere in Airlie Beach is very scarce these days especially with the building work going on. By working for us, you can save on accommodation costs and save money also whilst working.
        • If you are travelling with a partner we have had many instances where couples seem to do well in this situation and are able to save money in the process.  We are very flexible for partners of drivers to work elsewhere around Airlie Beach to earn extra money, but we ask them for a few hours work each day to pay for their board.
        • If you are interested send me an e-mail, phone or pop in to see for yourself the vibe we have at Bush Village.
        • Backpacker working cabin accommodationbackpacker staff kitchenFree accommodation for backpacking staff

Above is a few pictures of the Bush Village Staff Cabin. There is 2 Private bedrooms, each driver has their own private bedroom sharing kitchen and Bathroom. This Cabin is spacious and is perfect for those that want to relax, rejuvenate from the constant travel, and living out of a Backpack. Kick back and feel apart of the Bush Village Boutique backpacker local Australian Family Team .

There are a lot of cheap and nasty packages sold up and down the coast that include a nights accommodation,  so our driver has a stock of cards we had printed called a "Rescue Card"  to hand out to anybody that gets off the bus who have pre-booked into other hostels.

        • Put simply, if they get to the other hostel and don't like it, if they ring us we will "Rescue them"

        •   Its not hard to sell something when you believe in the product, quality and service provided.

        •   Because you are meeting all of the other drivers at the bus stop it is a social job, however there is an expectation of you winning your fair share of people from the buses to retain your job, because without your success the hostel would not survive on bookings alone.

        •  Other jobs incorporated in the driving position is the cleaning of the pool and laundry every morning and showing guests to their rooms, preparing and serving breakfast each morning, keeping the courtesy bus clean at all times, and other duties required for the smooth running of the hostel.

Accommodation , Breakfast and a salary is included.

          staff at Bush Village resort

Perks of the job:  When doing the time at Bush Village employees who have an intention of staying for a reasonable time will be offerred day trips to The Whitsundays at heavily reduced costs.  (obviously the operator expects you to refer guests to his product once you have experienced it and we make the booking through our tour booking office) There is no such thing as a free lunch anywhere!!

There is always work in the Airlie beach if you really want it. People come and go from the Whitsundays daily. It means being in the right place at the right time. There are several island resorts that have a very high turn over of staff and you should contact them directly. These include Hamilton Island  ph. 07 49 46999 , Daydream  Island  Ph. 07 49488488 and Hook Island  Ph. 07 49469380 Working on an island may sound like heaven but once you are there you will realise why the high turn over. The work is poorly paid due to "offshore workplace agreements" plus the cost of transport getting to and from the island on a daily basis usually leaves you with little after a hard weeks effort..

Around town, busineses call on the hostel looking for casual workers.  We get restaurants looking for dish washers, builders looking for muscles or furniture removal companies needing hands. These all pay reasonable money but are a spur of the moment phone calls and we ask who ever is in-house if they want the work.

Boating companies from time to time also need staff either on the boats or in the boat yards cleaning and detailing. Two companies l would recommend is Southern Cross Sailing and OzAdventure sailing. Although many people want these jobs so it is all about knowing the people who get told about these jobs and not only going to see them once off but many times to show your keeness.

I trust this has been of some assistance to you . Below are a few Job network agencies based in the Whitsundays where it is their business to help find work for people.

If you are interested in the Sales/Driving job at Bush Village you can email :

          • If you are interested in Fruit picking in the Whitsundays/ Bowen area, the closest hostel that does that places people in these types of jobs is in Proserpine which is 15 minutes away.  They provide workers to farms that plant and pick Tomatos, Egg Plants, Melons, Capsicums etc, on farms just north of Airlie Beach at Bowen. They can be contacted on enquires@oduinnsirishpub.com.au
